Spain : 10 PhD Fellowships at CNIO

“la Caixa”/CNIO International PhD Programme
In 2008 “la Caixa” Foundation, a non-profit organization, launched afellowship programme for outstanding young graduate students fromall over the world who want to pursue an ambitious PhD project atthe Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO). Last year “laCaixa” dedicated a budget of 500 million Euros to its social andcultural outreach projects, making it Spain’s leading privatefoundation, the second biggest in Europe and the fifth worldwide interms of budget.
The “la Caixa”/CNIO international PhD programme offers cross-disciplinary training in state-of-the- art basic and applied cancerresearch within an international scientific environment. Ten fullyfunded four year fellowships will be available in 2009. Candidatesshould have an excellent academic track record, a solid knowledge ofEnglish and previous research experience.
Applications must be received by March 15th, 2009.

Geospatial indicators for disaster risk management (PhD position)
The announced PhD position (30 hours/week) is available from March2009 (as soon as possible) for 2.5 years, with an option for furtherextension and contract renewal in October 2011.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the research coordinator at Z_GIS, andthe direct supervision of the project coordinator, the successfulapplicant will function as a project collaborator (researcher) andwill perform the following functions:
· contributes to the preparation and provision of project deliverables;
· participates in workshops and meetings;
· tracks schedules of tasks;
· develops an own research plan for the PhD thesis, in linewith envisaged achievements of project- or organizational objectives.
Earth observation for energy studies (Post-Doc position)
The announced PostDoc position (40 hours / week) is available from May2009 for 3 years, with an option for further extension and contractrenewal in June 2012.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the research coordinator at Z_GIS, thesuccessful applicant will function as a project coordinator (seniorresearcher) and will perform the following functions:
· acts as a contact person for energy related research;
· prepares operational plans and delegation of work tasks;
· contributes to the preparation and provision of project deliverables;
· organizes workshops and meetings;
· tracks schedules of tasks;
· develops an own research plan contributing to theachievement of project- and organizational objectives.
